The Viewfinder Photography Gallery is an exempted charity and currently unfunded – it is staffed entirely by volunteers.

If you are interested in volunteering, please email a CV and covering letter outlining which area you are interested in assisting with, to gallery[at]viewfinder.org.uk.

 

Development officer

This role involves keeping members informed (by email) of current offers and events, and developing the membership base – for example, promoting membership to colleges and photography clubs.

The role could also include developing and instigating benefits for members.

 

Writers for exhibition catalogues

The Viewfinder invites you to join photographers, critics and poets in contributing text for our exhibition catalogues.

Texts vary in length from meaty essays to a couple of paragraphs; some are academic, some whimsical; some are objective analysis, some personal interviews.

The gallery is an unfunded charity, staffed entirely by volunteers, and so unfortunately we are currently unable to pay writers – proceeds from catalogue sales directly support future exhibitions.

The catalogues are sold from the gallery and through the Viewfinder website: http://www.viewfinder.org.uk/shop.html, and through Blurb's website, on which they have had 3000+ views in the last three months.

The Viewfinder Photography Gallery is an exempted charity and run entirely by volunteers – we are currently registering with the Charity Commission now that we meet their income threshold.

Sponsorship enables us to continue our programme of promoting the work of emerging and established art photographers.

Sponsors can choose either to sponsor an exhibition (£300 per week), or individual photographers' (their share of the £300 per week).

Viewfinder exhibition catalogues include essays and interviews, poems, artist statements and sample images from the exhibition (and sometimes images that weren't exhibited).

£1500 for a year (approx 15 exhibition catalogues) would support the designer and editor's involvement in producing the catalogues, which are currently produced by volunteers.

For catalogue sponsors, benefits can include:

  • Exclusivity: only one catalogue sponsor at a time
  • Exclusive preview sponsor evening, with up to 80 guests
  • Three complimentary hand covered catalogues of your choice, posted to your office

Become a benefactor

£15,000 would support our exhibition programme for a year, with an average of fifteen exhibitions.

Benefactors support of £3,000 plays a crucial role in supporting our exhibition programme.

Benefits for benefactors are as with exhibition sponsors (for each exhibition), plus:

  • Accreditation on every page of www.viewfinder.org.uk
  • Accreditation on the opening page of exhibition catalogues ( see sample catalogues at www.viewfinder.org.uk/shop.html)
  • Two x complimentary gallery hire (normally £300 per evening)
  • Discounted (50%), priority booking on future gallery hire
  • Out of hours access to the gallery, by appointment
  • Opportunity to entertain up to ten guests for breakfast at the gallery, with a curator’s tour of the current exhibition
  • Priority booking on all talks and events
  • Lunchtime or early evening presentations on one exhibition, at your office
  • Exclusivity: limited to five new benefactors per year
  • Three complimentary handcovered catalogues of your choice, signed by the photographer(s) and posted to your office
  • Invitation to a summer picnic for six guests
